This book has been a while coming to fruition. Over the past 6 months, I've fielded a lot of questions about various techniques and processes used in my studio intentional camera movement work. Unfortunately, my approach to social media has not been as focused as it could have been. As a result, a lot of the explanations on various aspects of my work over the past 5 years are scattered about a variety of platforms.
This book is intended to pull all of my techniques and processes together in one place in a 'how to' format including details on studio construction, lighting, scene creation, camera settings, movement techniques, materials, and post-processing.
Recognizing that many people who follow my work are less into creating their own images and just want to enjoy the art, I have also included a section on my personal favorite images and how they were made. Others have asked questions about what motivates me in making my images, and especially naming them, so the book is sprinkled with some memories of life that have shaped me as an ICM artist.
At present, the book is done and is now in the hands of the proof-readers and editors. That is always an interesting, but tedious process as we go back and forth about what often amounts to spelling, syntax, and clarity of thought. Being my 4th book, I've learned the hard way that it is impossible to include everything I have done right up to the moment of publication. So, the book will be a little light on my recent work with ice and frozen scenes. That area of work is advancing rapidly. I would love to hold things up to cover these developments in complete detail, but by the time I got all that information into the book, I'd probably be off to something else. So, a hard stop is probably a good thing.
Anyhow, keep March 1 in mind. I have not yet formalized plans for launch week of the book, but will likely accompany it with a couple of zoom sessions and a pop-up exhibit locally. Stay tuned.
Regards,
David Day
